CAPE TOWN COMMITS TO COMIC CON FOR THREE YEARS
Following a successful first edition, Comic Con Cape Town will be staying in the Mother City for the next three years.
The City of Cape Town has approved sponsorship for the event for the 2024, 2025 and 2026 editions.
The new agreement will commence this year, with the event scheduled to take place over the Freedom Day week.
Comic Con Cape Town is the mother of all pop culture events, with four days of the best in gaming, comics, shopping, cosplay and international celebrities under one roof.
The first fully-fledged Comic Con in the Mother City drew 27 484 attendees who collectively spent over R24 million in Cape Town.
A SUCCESSFUL CON
‘The event exceeded all expectations and received the full buy-in of local, national and international audiences in 2023,” said the City of Cape Town’s said the Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security JP Smith.
“As the City, we believe it will keep on building from here and our support will go a long way in ensuring the event remains a go-to event for people of all age groups. Additionally, it has been encouraging to see the immediate impact the event has had on the economy and the expectation is that this trend will continue for years to come.”
In addition to the economic injection from the event, the City of Cape Town was also encouraged by the over 235 trading opportunities provided to local businesses who got to exhibit at the event.
This year, the event organisers are planning to increase the number of exhibitors, providing opportunities for more local businesses and growing the attendance numbers.
Comic Con Cape Town will take place at CTICC 2 from 27 April to 1 May 2024.
With this year’s show being five days of con magic – the Saturday, Sunday, Wednesday (public holiday) will still be the traditional Comic Con between 9am and 6pm.
You can meet celebrities, get autographs and photo ops, shop, and enjoy everything that you have come to know and love about the Comic Con experience.
On Monday 29 April and Tuesday 30 April, the event organiser is bringing the Con like you’ve never seen before with activates kicking off from lunch into the evening.
