CAPE TOWN’S SUMMER OF BLOCKBUSTER SPORTS
Buckle up for an exciting summer of big hits, tries, goals, and sixes in Cape Town.
Starting this spring, Cape Town will host the Springboks, the Proteas, MI Cape Town, the Stormers, and Cape Town City.
The Rugby World Cup Champions, the Springboks, will kick off five months of sports action in Cape Town with a clash against long-time rivals, New Zealand, at the DHL Stadium.
This will be the first time the Boks play against the All Blacks in the Mother City since 2017.
The Castle Lager Rugby Championship clash on 7 September 2024 will be a rematch of the 2023 World Cup final, which South Africa won to reclaim back-to-back World Cup titles.
The game kicks off at 17:00.
A BREWING STORM
A fortnight later, the DHL Stormers will kick off its Vodacom URC campaign with an electrifying showdown against the Vodacom Bulls on 21 September.
The repeat of the 2022 URC Final will reignite the high-intensity South vs North rivalry under the Green Point evening sky.
Taking place at the iconic DHL Stadium, fans can expect thrilling tries, fierce tackles, and an unforgettable atmosphere.
The Stormers will have a busy schedule in the upcoming season, with 22 weeks of action in the URC and the Investec Champions Cup between September and May 2025.
They will play a total of 11 home games in front of The Faithful.

PAINTING THE CITY BLUE
On the footballing front, Cape Town City FC will get their Betway Premiership season started away from home when they go up against Royal AM on 14 September in Pietermaritzburg.
Two weeks later, the Citizens will play their first home game at Athlone Stadium on 28 September against SuperSport United.
City has bolstered its squad into the season with some exciting players in several areas.
“I’ve been pretty happy with the performance of the team [in pre-season]. We’ve made quite a few new signings this season — we’ve got a lot more depth and experience in our squad,” said Cape Town City coach, Eric Tinker.
“We’re excited about the season and there (are) a lot of promising signs. The ambition in the group is clear, and we’re approaching the next match with a focused mindset.”

NEWLANDS CRICKET EXTRAVAGANZA
In December and January, the Proteas will play cricket in Cape Town against Pakistan as part of the Inbound Tour.
The Mother City will first experience the electrifying thrill of white-ball cricket for an ODI game on 19 December at Newlands Cricket Ground.
The day/night game will be Pakistan’s first return to Cape Town since 2019 when the South African team won the test and T20 series.
Newlands Cricket Ground will end the Inbound Tour with the traditional New Year’s Test from 3 – 7 January 2025.

Newlands Cricket Ground will also be abuzz in January and February for the third season of the Betway SA20.
From 9 January to 8 February 2025, fans will be treated to exhilarating T20 cricket action at six national cricket venues over four weeks.

BIGGEST PARTY IN TOWN
World Rugby’s biggest sports and lifestyle festival, the HSBC Cape Town SVNS returns to DHL Stadium on 7 and 8 December 2024.
The Olympic medallists Blitzboks will be among 23 other best men’s and women’s sevens teams in action for the second leg of the HSBC SVNS 2025 Series.
Cape Town SVNS brings two days of action-packed rugby, music, food, entertainment, and electric energy.
“The setting, the wonderful stadium, the hospitality and love for rugby from the fans bring a unique Cape Town experience to the tournament,” said Rian Oberholzer, SA Rugby CEO.
“The Cape Town Sevens has established itself on the calendar as the unofficial start of summer in the Mother City and we’re looking forward to another weekend of spectacular rugby and fantastic fun for 100 000 people,” said Oberholzer.

SPORT, MUSIC, JOL
South Africa’s biggest social, sport, and lifestyle event, the Cape Town 10s, will bring a curtain to an exciting summer season of sports on 31 January and 1 February 2025.
Roughly 20 000 people gather at Green Point’s Common Fields for a weekend of ten-a-side rugby, netball, dodgeball, water polo, and padel.
When the sun goes down, the sports field is transformed into an entertainment arena with live entertainment, a couple of cold ones, and an all-out jol.
