Cape Town Street Parade

The Tweede Nuwe Jaar Street Parade, also known as the Cape Town Hollywoodbets Street Parade, is one of Cape Town’s most vibrant cultural celebrations and the largest parade of its kind in Africa.

Dating back to 1907, the parade has become a cherished tradition that showcases the rich history, resilience and creativity of Cape Town’s minstrel community. For more than a century, generations of performers have kept this cultural legacy alive overcoming challenges that included two world wars, apartheid and the impact of the Group Areas Act.

Each year, thousands of spectators line the streets to experience the colour, music and energy of the parade. Minstrel troupes from across Cape Town bring the city to life with dazzling costumes, lively performances and a spirit of celebration that reflects the unique heritage of communities from District Six, Bo-Kaap, De Waterkant, Green Point and beyond.
