Now in its 26th year, Encounters is the premier Documentary Film Festival in Africa. The event showcases South African productions and the best on offer from the rest of the world.
Encounters prioritises the Documentary Genre, the exploration of issues that face communities and societies, their health, culture, and politics. It opens a window on to the world that highlights differences, connections, problems, and solutions. Encounters has advanced the currency of documentaries locally and across the continent and has been instrumental in promoting African films.
Encounters believes in the power of documentary film to transform, inform, challenge, support, engage both emotionally and intellectually and, ultimately, contribute to mutual understanding and dialogue.
