HSBC Sevens Challenger – Round 1

The HSBC Sevens Challenger 2025 returns to Cape Town with back-to-back rounds featuring 12 men’s and 12 women’s national teams from six global regions.

This is the second tier of competition below the SVNS. The first two of three Challenger tournaments will be hosted in the Mother City.

The tournament will see four pools of three teams each, based on rankings from previous competitions. All teams have qualified for the Challenger via regional competitions.

In men’s rugby, Pool A features Germany, Japan, and Georgia, while Pool B includes Chile, Tonga, and Portugal. Pool C has Samoa, Uganda, and Brazil, and Pool D pits Hong Kong China and Madagascar against Canada.

For the women, Pool A consists of South Africa, Czechia, and Hong Kong China; Pool B has Argentina, Thailand, and Mexico; Pool C includes Belgium, Uganda, and Colombia; and Pool D showcases Poland, Samoa, and Kenya.
