Lumenocity lights up Iziko Museum at night with Illustrator YayAbe
Lumenocity
LUMENOCITY is a large scale public light art festival that transforms Company’s Garden into an immersive night time cultural experience.
Over several evenings, South African light artists and digital creatives present site specific installations and large format projection mapping that respond directly to the history, architecture, and natural landscape of the Gardens.
A key component of the festival is projection mapping onto the Iziko South African Museum, where artists use the building’s façade as a canvas to create original visual narratives rooted in local context, heritage, and contemporary expression.
The public is invited to explore the Gardens after dark in a safe, curated environment, experiencing light as a serious artistic medium rather than entertainment.
At its core, LUMENOCITY is about accessibility, creative upliftment, and legacy.
The festival prioritises local artists, technical practitioners, and learners, creating meaningful opportunities for skills transfer, mentorship, and collaboration.
A central feature of the event is the Beam of Hope, a powerful vertical light installation that acts as a symbolic beacon for the city and a visual anchor for the festival.
