The Nelson Mandela Marathon brings people together through running to celebrate Nelson Mandela’s legacy and the values of unity, courage and perseverance.
Cape Town hosts the inaugural event, with a 42km marathon, 21km half marathon, 10km run, 10km fun walk and 5km run.
Whether you’re chasing a personal best or taking your first steps, there’s a place for you here.
Starting and finishing on the historic Grand Parade, the event connects sport, heritage and community in a celebration of shared purpose. Every participant runs in the spirit of Madiba, and every step counts towards something bigger. All profits go to the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
The route includes some of Cape Town’s most storied streets and landmarks: the Grand Parade, District Six, Parliament, the Company’s Garden and the colourful streets of Bo-Kaap, with the Castle of Good Hope along the way too.
Fast, flat and full of history, it’s a course that makes you feel the city’s past and present with every kilometre.
It is an invitation to honour Madiba’s vision, connect with one another and carry his legacy forward, one step at a time.
