Sanlam Cape Town Marathon

The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon is Africa’s first Abbott World Marathon Majors Candidate and is working toward becoming the continent’s first Major.

The event aims to showcase Cape Town, its marathon legends and its diverse cultures on the world stage.

The race is set to pass Stage 2 in May 2026, which will confirm its place as an official Abbott World Marathon Major.

The weekend offers a full range of events, including the road marathon, the Peace Runs and trail runs that highlight Cape Town’s natural scenery.

These options give runners of all levels a chance to experience the city through a mix of fast urban racing and scenic off-road routes.
