FROM HANOVER STREET LEADS A POWERFUL MONTH OF EVENTS
Hanover Street, the heartbeat of Cape Town’s vibrant District Six, will have its story in the spotlight this month.
From Hanover Street, a production marking 60 years since the forced removals from District Six, will make its debut at the Artscape Theatre Centre. The production opens on 10 February 2026.
The concert combines music and storytelling to honour the memories, culture and lived experiences of families who once called District Six home, while celebrating the enduring spirit and heritage of the community.
“We’re celebrating a very important day, the 11th of February. It’s about celebration, so that we never forget what happened in District Six,” says producer Jody Abrahams.
Abrahams and his fellow Original Broetjies – Loukmaan Adams, Alistair Izobell and Emo Adams – are teaming up with legendary David Kramer for From Hanover Street.
“I personally would like to thank David Kramer and the late Taliep Petersen for giving District Six a voice when no one else did. That is why these songs will live with us forever. It’s not just music, it’s our heritage,” says Emo Adams.
From Hanover Street will run for six days, with seven shows at Artscape. Evening performances take place from 10 – 13 February, with both an afternoon and evening show on 14 February.
The final performance on 15 February will be an afternoon showing.
