HERE’S WHY YOU SHOULD RUN CAPE TOWN

There aren’t many places in the world where you can run under the shadow of one of the New7Wonders of Nature and along the Atlantic or Indian Ocean.

Blessed with natural beauty, pristine road infrastructure and scenic mountain trails with breathtaking views, Cape Town has it all for any type of runner.

Cape Town has worked to establish itself as a preferred destination for running events and a runner’s paradise for those who enjoy the sport.

Along with having a wide-ranging calendar of major road running events, the Mother City is also steadily proving itself as the go-to destination for trail running.

With meticulous planning by event organisers in partnership with the City of Cape Town and other partners, running events in Cape Town are put together to ensure the safety of runners and provide them with a memorable experience.

RUNNING EVENTS FOR EVERY MONTH

With an exciting line-up of running events throughout the year, running enthusiasts are never in need of an occasion to improve their personal bests.

Whether it’s a 5km fun run/walk, a 10KM, a half marathon, marathon or an ultra marathon, Cape Town’s annual events calendar has them in abundance.

From the Bay 2 Bay in January, Cape Peninsula Marathon and Half in February, the Two Oceans Marathon in April, the Cape Town Marathon in October to the Ultra-trail Cape Town in November, the calendar covers a wide-range of events catering to athletes of all running disciplines.

VIEWS ARE UNMATCHED

There’s no shortage of breathtaking views or iconic landmarks when running Cape Town.

In the Mother City, every turn unveils a new adventure in your running journey. Every hill climb is rewarded with breathtaking views on the other side.

Whether it’s running from Newlands, at the foot of the Table Mountain chain, to the majesty of Chapman’s Peak Drive for the Two Oceans Marathon or traversing the streets of the Mother City passing iconic landmarks including City Hall, the District Six Museum and the Castle of Good Hope for the Cape Town Marathon.

Cape Town’s terrain presents runners not only with a diversity of routes but also gives amateur and professional athletes the perfect challenge as they look to conquer their PBs.

We invite you to tackle some of Cape Town’s winding and scenic routes, soak in the beautiful weather, take in the breathtaking sunrise or sunset while some of the most passionate spectators provide the wind in your sails on the sidelines.
