MI CAPE TOWN‘S BOLD BETWAY SA20 PUSH

MI Cape Town is determined to make a serious run at the Betway SA20 title in 2025.

The Cape Town-based franchise made moves ahead of an exciting third season of the SA20.

After finishing sixth in the last two seasons, MI Cape Town has bolstered its squad with a mix of retained stars and high-profile international signings.

The team has done a fair amount of business in the off-season, retaining some of its key players while also picking up some of the world’s top cricketers to boost its chances this season.

One of the biggest stories for the Cape Town franchise this season will be the return of Afghan powerhouse Rashid Khan.

Khan missed last season due to a back injury.

His comeback will be key not only as a lethal wicket-taking spinner but also as the team’s skipper.

The Blue and Gold has also added Cricket SA T20 Cricketer of the Year Reeza Hendricks who fetched the highest bid at the SA20 auction.

Hendricks joined a list of recruits, including Proteas spinner Dane Piedt, New Zealand legend Trent Boult, and Afghan all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai.

“The players we bought, besides their skills and leadership is that they are great guys in the dressing room,” says Head Coach Robin Peterson.

“In high-pressure tournaments, you need guys to have fun and not get bogged down. We need guys to keep their spirits up when things get tough, and those signings do that. Looking forward to that.”

In addition to assembling an experienced squad, MI Cape Town has welcomed former New Zealand cricketers Mitchell McClenaghan (Bowling Coach) and Kruger van Wyk (Fielding Coach).

The pair join a technical team that includes Proteas Great Hashim Amla, Batting Coach.
