PRIDE MONTH IN CAPE TOWN: DIVERSE, INCLUSIVE, BOLD
The pride flag is flying high in the Mother City this month thanks to the Cape Town Pride Festival.
Outreach Africa, organisers of the Cape Town Pride Festival, are hosting a series of events across the city to honour Cape Town Pride Month.
For the last 30 years, Cape Town Pride has been shining a spotlight on LGBTIQ+ issues and promoting human rights.
The festival has served as a platform for raising awareness, education and advocate for the rights of the LGBTIQA+ community not only in the country but for the entire continent.
“As Cape Town comes alive with the colours of Pride 2025, let us take a moment to honour those who paved the way for our freedoms while holding space for those who, for various reasons, cannot celebrate with us,” says choreographer Nkosinathi Sangweni waka Mtshali.
Nkosinathi has recently been appointed as the 2025 Cape Town Pride’s Ambassador.
“Pride is a moment of joy and unity, but it is also a reminder of the work that remains. So, let’s march, dance, and celebrate—but let’s not be oblivious to the fight that continues for equal rights, representation, and justice for all.”
FESTIVAL CALENDAR
The festival’s three-week programme cuts across a variety of subjects including awareness, education, entertainment and exploring Cape Town.
From a seminar on Testicular Cancer, crowning a new Mr. and Miss Cape Town Pride, hikes and book nights, the festival lineup is as diverse as its people.
The month-long activities will culminate in the annual pride parade march and mardi gras in Green Point.
