TOTALSPORTS WOMEN’S RACE THIS WOMEN’S DAY

When the Totalsports Women’s Race hits the streets of Cape Town this Women’s Day, it won’t just be another running event.

It’s a bold celebration of health, strength, solidarity and empowerment.

Taking place on Saturday, 9 August 2025, the 19th edition of the race will see a record-breaking 15 000 participants ready to paint the Mother City pink and powerful.

Starting from the iconic Darling Street, this is a day that blends fitness, fun, and purpose – all in honour of Women’s Day and the vital cause of breast cancer awareness.

The race also attracts a powerhouse field of elite runners annually and it’s no different this year.

Olympian and Lesotho’s 10km national record holder Neheng Khatala will be among the field of elite women contesting this year’s race.

More Than Just a Race Event

The event has grown into something much more than just a race.

It’s a platform for empowerment, a celebration of women’s achievements, and a call to action for healthy living.

Every year on 9 August, women of all ages come together to commemorate a day that carries deep meaning in South Africa’s history – one that honours the bravery and strength of women who marched to the Union Buildings in protest of pass laws 1956.

Taking on the Women’s Race – whether running the 10km or the 5km – every step through the streets of Cape Town is filled with purpose and pride that honours that historic march.

The thousands, who will be among the famous sea of pink, will also be running in solidarity with PinkDrive, a breast cancer awareness organisation dedicated to improving education, early detection and access to vital services.

PinkDrive will be present throughout the day offering free clinical breast examinations and encouraging self-checks — a powerful reminder of why this event matters.

The message is clear: early detection saves lives. And this race helps spread that message, loudly and proudly.

An Iconic Route

The race route is a visual feast, guiding runners through some of the city’s most cherished landmarks.

Setting off in front of the iconic Cape Town City Hall, the 10km journey weaves through Woodstock, District Six, past the Parliament precinct, Company’s Garden, and the heart of the CBD, before crossing the finish line on the historic Grand Parade.

A Day of Entertainment

Beyond the run, the day is set to bring the vibes. Lady Zamar, known for her powerful voice and empowering lyrics, will headline the entertainment, performing for thousands of runners and supporters as they celebrate sisterhood, strength, and survival.

“The Totalsports Women’s Race is a great initiative for Women’s Month,” says Lady Zamar.

“These events promote wellness and mental strength through exercise, and the fact that they take place in multiple cities makes them truly special. As a woman who stands with and supports other women, I feel deeply honoured to be part of such a prestigious celebration.”

Her performances will be joined by a host of on-route entertainment including Minstrel bands, cheer squads, marimba bands and more. The route isn’t just about kilometres; it’s also about vibes and community.
