CITY AND SPURS IN NEED OF A TURNAROUND
With just a month left in the DSTV Premiership season, Cape Town’s top flight football teams are hoping for a turn in fortunes.
Cape Town Spurs are bottom of the log going into Friday night’s game against fellow relegation strugglers Richards Bay.
The Parow-based side has lost the last four games and find itself nine points off a playoff spot currently occupied by their opponent.
Head coach Ernst Middendorp believes Friday’s game at Athlone Stadium is do or die.
“Everything depends on Friday evening, if we don’t win on Friday and then you can close the book, that’s the reality,” he said.
“We have to win this game. We have to get three points.”
A win against Richards Bay could get Spurs within five points of safety with five more games to play.
Middendorp’s team will get another opportunity to earn more points when they face off against Polokwane City at Athlone Stadium on Tuesday 30 April. Tickets for the 19:30 kick off game are available from Ticketpro
CAPE TOWN CITY
Spurs’ cross town rivals, Cape Town City plays two crucial games in a four-day span, starting with a clash against Golden Arrows on Sunday 28 April at DHL Stadium. Kick off for that game is at 17:30.
City desperately need to hold on a top eight position following a terrible run of form that has seen them winless in the league this year.
A win could see City jump to 5th and just three points off the CAF competition positions.
Victory against Arrows could also be a confidence booster for City ahead of a big match against Orlando Pirates on Wednesday 1 May.
Tickets for the Pirates game are available at Ticketpro, starting at R80.
