INVESTEC SA WOMEN’S OPEN SWINGS INTO SOMERSET WEST

The South African golf community’s eyes will be on Somerset West this week for the Investec South African Women’s Open.

Erinvale Country and Golf Estate will host the exiting Sunshine Ladies Tour season finale from 10 – 13 April 2025.

It is the second year the 18-hole golf course, nestled at the foothills of the Helderberg and Hottentots Holland Mountain range, is hosting the Investec South African Women’s Open.

On the line is a R7.1 million prize purse and the most historic trophy in South African women’s professional golf.

With a strong field of competitors which includes Sunshine Ladies Tour and Ladies European Tour winners, the 2025 SA Women’s Open will be a hotly contested affair.

CHASING GLORY

For Casandra Alexander, who currently leads the Investec Order of Merit, winning the SA Women’s Open would be the crowning moment of what has been a outstanding season.

Alexander, the in-form golfer of the season, has been on a remarkable streak, having finished in the top five in her last six tournaments on tour. This included victory at the Jabra Ladies Classic in February.

“This level of consistency is exactly what I’ve been working towards,” says Alexander.

“The aim has been to be in contention every single week, and I’ve achieved that. So hopefully the form continues.”

The 25-year-old South African golfer has twice finished second place on the Investec Order of Merit in 2021 and 2023.

In 2025, the reward is now within striking distance.

With this being the final event of the Sunshine Ladies Tour season, the top-ranked player on the Investec Order of Merit at the end of the season will earn a R200 000 bonus.

A win for Alexander or any other South African golfer comes with a R100 000 bonus through the Investec Homegrown Award, aimed at celebrating local talent.

BREAKOUT
STAR

But the competition for the slice of prize purse is fierce.

Kaiyuree Moodley, currently leading the rookie race, is making her name on tour this season.

With the inaugural R&A Rookie of the Year title still up for grabs, Moodley would be looking to use her time at Erinvale to engrave her name on the trophy.

In her breakout season, Moodley has had three top 10 finishes and earned her Ladies European Tour card, a significant achievement that highlights her potential on the international stage.

The rookie of the year will not only gain recognition but also receive automatic exemptions into the 2026 Joburg Ladies Open and the 2026 Investec South African Women’s Open.

Investec’s ongoing support of women’s golf reflects the brand’s belief in nurturing extraordinary local talent.

“Investec’s support of women’s golf is to create exactly these opportunities for growth in the game and to help unlock investment in this talent,” says Investec Head of Sponsorship Peta Dixon.

“It’s a privilege for us to continue supporting homegrown female talent in golf on the international stage.”

The increasing investment in women’s golf is also evident in the €20,000 increase in prize money for this year’s tournament, making it one of Africa’s richest women’s sports events.

Additionally, for the first time in Sunshine Ladies Tour history, there will be a double pro-am during the event, highlighting the growing interest in the sport.
