CAPE TOWN FUNNY FESTIVAL HEATS UP WINTER NIGHTS
Cape Town’s biggest comedy showcase, the Jive Cape Town Funny Festival, returns to the Baxter Theatre for a month of non-stop laughter.
From 2 to 29 June 2025, some of South Africa and the world’s top comics will deliver a unique blend of stand-up, slapstick comedy and variety acts as part of a celebration of the lighter side of life.
Now in its 26th year, the festival has firmly established itself as South Africa’s largest and most loved comedy project.
“The local stand-up industry is thriving and producing some world-class acts, and it’s our duty to showcase our performers,” says Funny Festival Director Eddy Cassar.
“We intersperse them with great variety acts we source abroad. I think it makes for a great show. Our audience views the Funny Festival as a great night out.”
The Cape Town Funny Festival will deliver a four-week programme with 28 performances that will surely warm up the Mother City’s winter nights.
Opening Night Buzz + Magic from Sweden
The Festival kicks off in style with Sweden’s Got Talent winner Charlie Caper (2- 29 June)) jaw-dropping magic, the Cape’s musical comedy with Emo and Loukmaan Adams ( 2- 29 June) and the Naked Towel Act by Kalk Bay’s comedy duo Big Boys (2- 29 June).
Comics’ Choice Comedy Awards winners Schalk Bezuidenhout (3 and 4 June), Robby Collins (2 – 15 June) and Kagiso “KG” Mokgadi (2 – 15 June) will bring big laughs in the festival’s first week.
Dalin Oliver takes the mic as MC for the first two weeks, warming up the crowd Cape Town-style.
Local Legends + International Flair
Campagnia Baccala, the multi-award-winning clown duo from Italy’s Cirque du Soleil, will bring their unique brand of theatrical comedy to the Baxter stage. The duo, made up of Simone Fassari and Camilla Pessi, will play the festival from 17 – 29 June.
They will share the stage with the First Lady of South African comedy, Tumi Morake, a multi-award-winning comic and actress, who returns to the Funny Festival for a two-week run.
They will be joined by Alan Committie, who will take over MC duties from Oliver, and newly crowned Jive Funny Championship winner Mbali Gudazi will also take to the stage for the full festival.
Beyond the comedy, the Festival has a purpose. Proceeds support Operation Smile, helping children born with cleft conditions receive life-changing surgery.
