SEPTEMBER SPRINGS INTO ACTION WITH EXCITING EVENTS LINEUP
Cape Town is shaking off the winter chill and stepping into spring with a month bursting with festivals, concerts, sport, theatre and family fun.
September in the Mother City has something for bookworms, sports fan, music lover, theatre enthusiast and many more.
The month kicked off with FAME Week Africa, a week-long safari of film, art, music and entertainment events packed into a single festival, at the CTICC from 1 – 6 September.
For the rest of the month, Cape Town will host over 100 events.
Here are some of the highlights that will bring a spring into your September weekdays and weekends.
Cape Town’s biggest literary festival
The 13th edition of the Open Book Festival returns to District Six for three days of thought-provoking conversations, panel discussions, readings and poetry.
The much-loved festival the event includes over 150 literary events and over 100 authors.
The Open Book Festival is a celebration of storytelling that builds bridges across communities. This year’s festival is supported by Open Book Online, a digital initiative launched in December 2024

A Cape Derby revived
For the first time since 2016, DHL Western Province meets the Sanlam Boland Cavaliers in a historic Currie Cup clash at DHL Stadium.
A historic Western Cape rivalry, Die Streeptruie and the Cavaliers have battled for bragging rights for decades, with clashes often reflecting the passion and pride of their communities.
Going into the game, the two have contrasting fortunate this season with the Cavaliers riding high and WP at the bottom of the table.
Despite the current state of affairs, bragging rights are still up for grabs and fans can expect a fierce contest for provincial supremacy.

Sliming it up at Canal Walk
Canal Walk Kids Club presents a fun, hands-on experience for kids to create their own glittery galaxy slime.
The workshop includes all materials, plus a sweet Krispy Kreme treat afterwards.

Boom! There they go
The OUTsurance Gun Run brings a weekend of exciting running events to the Green Point Precinct and the Atlantic Seaboard.
With a combined 23 000 across five races over two days, one of Cape Town’s most iconic running events has options for all kind of runners.
Athletes can choose between the 21.1km half-marathon, 17km trail run, 10km, 5km fun run and even a 5km pet walk.

Celebrating a century of Afrikaans
Afrikaans is Groot returns to Cape Town for the first time since 2018.
This time, it is celebrating 100 years of Afrikaans as an official language with an all-star line-up including Bok van Blerk, Francois van Coke, Tarryn Lamb, Emo Adams, Early B and more.

A scenic Half Marathon
If you’ve ever wanted to take in the breathtaking panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean from Chapman’s Peak Drive on foot, then this race is for you.
One of the most beautiful and scenic drives in the world becomes the route for the Chapman’s Peak Half Marathon.
Around 3 700 runners will tackle the 21km race which also includes this winding picturesque road along the coast.
The race is sold out however interested runners can still add their names to the waiting list in the event a spot becomes available.

A world of music in Cape Town
Part of the global World of Music, Arts & Dance festival series, WOMAD Cape Town showcases international and local talent with performances, workshops and cultural exchanges across various venues.
The prestigious performing arts festival is set to take place at various locations in and around the V&A Waterfront.
There is something for every arts fan with a broad spectrum of music and dance performances and a Buskers Showcase on offer over the full three days.

A new era for DHL Stormers
September will also see the return of the United Rugby Championship, with the DHL Stormers taking on defending champions Leinster.
The URC round 1 clash, taking place on 26 September at the DHL Stadium, will be the first since the Stormers launched its new brand identity.
With a new logo, a refreshed kit and some new recruits in the squad, the Stormers will be looking to make a bold statement in front of the Faithful.
The Cape side holds a 3–1 record over Leinster in their last five URC encounters.
Expect fireworks as the Stormers’ blistering attack takes on the Irish giants’ tactical precision.

Winter, wine and cheese
The Time Out Market Cape Town’s Winter Wine Series closes off September with a selection of some of the Western Cape’s most exceptional wines.
The monthly series pairs locally produced wines with artisanal cheeses, curated lifestyle and cultural experiences for an afternoon that will surprise, educate, and delight.
Time Out Market: Winter Wine & Cheese is an opportunity to sip and savour the best of the Cape with unlimited tastings, and conversations with local wine experts.

A musical masterpiece
Broadway’s longest-running American musical continues its month-long run at the Artscape Theatre this September.
The award-winning production will light up the stage with dazzling choreography, scandal, and jazz classics.
Featuring iconic hits like All That Jazz, Cell Block Tango, and Razzle Dazzle, Chicago is a musical masterpiece packed with show-stopping performances, breathtaking choreography, and scandalous intrigue.
