SPRINGBOKS VS ALL BLACKS COMING TO CAPE TOWN
DHL Stadium is set to host the biggest rivalry in World Rugby in 2024 – Springboks vs the All Black.
The Rugby World Cup champions Springboks will renew an old rivalry with the New Zealand rugby team for a two-test series in 2024, kicking off at the Emirates Airline Park, Johannesburg in August.
The Springboks have won the two previous meetings against their long-time adversary with the last coming in the World Cup final in France in October.
For the first time in seven years, the old foes will do battle in Cape Town on 7 September 2024 in the Castle Lager Rugby Championship.
The Boks last hosted the All Black in the Mother City in 2017 at Newlands where they suffered a narrow 25-24 defeat.
DHL STADIUM
The iconic stadium has hosted four Springbok tests over the last two years, three of them against the British and Irish Lions in 2021 played without fans due to COVID-19 restrictions. The Springboks also played against Wales in Cape Town in 2022.
The 58 000-capacity facility will now add the New Zealand on a list of rugby teams who have run out on the turf.
“This is very exciting for DHL Stadium and we expect a full capacity event,” says DHL Stadium CEO Gina Woodburn.
“The last time this capacity was achieved for a rugby match was the URC Final in 2022… So this will be the first Springbok Test Match at full capacity. The Springboks currently have a 3 in 4 winning record at the stadium.”
The Springboks’ home Test schedule for 2024:
6 July: SA v Ireland (Loftus Versfeld, Pretoria)
13 July: SA v Ireland (Hollywoodbets Kings Park, Durban)
20 July: SA v Portugal (TBC)
