CAPE TOWN 10K: ICONIC ROUTE FOR ICONIC 10th EDITION

Cape Town’s streets will come alive this month as the Absa RUN YOUR CITY CAPE TOWN 10K celebrates its 10th anniversary.

Starting from the postcard-perfect setting of Woodbridge Island, the race takes runners on an unforgettable journey through some of the city’s most famous landmarks.

From the scenic sweep of Table Bay and the shadow of Table Mountain to the vibrant heart of the CBD, the runners will cross the finish line on the usually bustling Long Street.

The Absa Cape Town 10K brings together a diverse group of runners from the elites to recreational runners and those in it for the vibes. A sold-out field of around 15 000 people will take to the Mother City’s streets on Sunday, 11 May 2025.

As one of South Africa’s most loved mass participation events, the race transforms Cape Town’s roads into a high-energy course with entertainment, music, and support zones that bring the route to life with good vibes for runners and spectators alike.

ELITE COMPETITION

Leading the men’s field is Kabelo Mulaudzi, whose remarkable podium finish run stretches back to September 2024.

Known for his relentless drive and consistency, the 24-year-old aims to keep his streak alive in Cape Town.

“I’m consistent in my training,” says Mulaudzi, fresh off a 14:01.89 at the South African Championships in Potchefstroom last month.

“Even if I’m not feeling 100%, I push myself to get onto the podium.”

His 2025 season already includes a win at the Motsepe Foundation’s Race to Gender Equality, a CGA track title, and a blistering 27:57 finish at the Absa Gqeberha 10K.

“This time around, I want to give it a go in Cape Town,” Mulaudzi adds. “I’m targeting a sub-28-minute time and a PB. If I can do that and make the podium, I’ll be happy.”

On the women’s side, Glenrose Xaba returns to Cape Town in top form.  After a third-place finish in Gqeberha, she stormed to her 14th national title with a win in the 5000m at the SA Champs. As South Africa’s fastest-ever woman over 10km (31:12), Xaba is focused and firing.

“My body is responding very well after the SA Champs,” says Xaba.

“Running sub-32 takes focus and consistent work. My goal in Cape Town is to run faster than Gqeberha and be on the podium.”

The elite field also includes big names like Thabang Mosiako, Elroy Gelant (fresh from a new South African marathon record of 2:05:36), Kenyan middle runner Asbel Kiprop Rutto, and veteran road runner Stephen Mokoka.

On the women’s side, international contenders like Ethiopia’s Selam Gebre and Lesotho’s national record-holder Neheng Khatala (32:01) will test local favourites Lebo Phalula and Cacisile Sosibo.
