YOUR GUIDE TO THE 2026 CAPE TOWN CARNIVAL

The 2026 Cape Town Carnival is shaping up to be a spectacular extravaganza of colour, creativity and culture.

The Mother City’s vibrant celebration of the performing arts takes over the streets of Green Point on Saturday, 21 March 2026.

It will bring together thousands of performers, dazzling floats and an electric festival atmosphere.

Under the theme “Follow Your heART”, the Carnival will feature around 1 500 performers from diverse communities across the Western Cape, celebrating the creativity and cultural richness that make Cape Town unique.

From afternoon festivities to the spectacular night parade and after-party, here’s everything you need to know about Carnival day.

A city celebration: what to expect

At the heart of the event is the three-hour street parade, one of Cape Town’s most spectacular public celebrations.

Crowds will line the streets as vibrant floats, dancers, musicians and performers move through the city in a dazzling procession of colour, music and movement.

But the Carnival experience goes far beyond the parade. Visitors can enjoy:

• Carnival villages with food vendors and bars
• Live entertainment stages
• Spectator seating stands
• A family-friendly festival atmosphere
• An after-party that runs late into the night

With around 36 000 spectators expected, the event promises an unforgettable evening in the Mother City.

The Theme: Follow Your heART

The 2026 theme, “Follow Your heART”, celebrates the passion and creativity that drive Cape Town’s artists, performers and cultural leaders.

Helping bring the theme to life are 12 Carnival Champions drawn from the city’s creative community. Among them are singer Zolani Mahola, legendary DJ Ready D, artist Anslin Gysman, designer Stephen van Eeden.

Some of these Champions will perform during the event, while others have helped shape the creative elements of the parade floats.

They will be joined by a host of familiar personalities including actor Siv Ngesi, Melissa Nayimuli and the popular Kfm 94.5 duo Carl Wastie and Cassidy Nicholson.

A Tribute to Bravo le Roux

This year’s parade will also celebrate the life and influence of Bravo le Roux, the Khayelitsha-born hip-hop artist who passed away earlier this year. He is one of the 12 champions leading the carnival in 2026.

Bravo le Roux contributed creatively to the carnival and served as inspiration for the float Amandla, which also happens to be the name of one of his many hit songs.

In his first appearance at the carnival, the late artist born Sinesipho Peter, dazzled the crowds with a performance that embodied his undeniable charisma and powerful storytelling.

In 2026, his voice, wisdom, and presence will continue to echo through the Carnival and far beyond it.

A diverse parade lineup

The parade remains the centrepiece of the Carnival and will feature a spectacular lineup of themed floats and performance groups.

Behind the scenes, community groups, dancers, designers and float builders have spent months preparing for this moment.

Their work transforms the streets into a vibrant stage that is a celebration of creativity, culture and the spirit of Cape Town.

Expect to see:

• Kaapse Vibes performers
• Chinese Community dragon dancers
• The Western Province Marching Band
• African Rhythms puppeteers
• Uvuyo “Mother Nature” float
• Boldly Beautiful doll float
• Morph butterfly performers
• BPM graffiti and speaker float

Adding to the spectacle will be animal puppets, stilt walkers, choirs, live music and more than 20 spinning RS4A cars, creating a vibrant visual feast for spectators.

Pre-Parade festivities

Carnival celebrations start well before the parade.

From the afternoon, visitors can enjoy the Carnival Village, which offers live entertainment, food trucks and bars while the excitement builds along the parade route.

Pre-parade highlights include:

• A 1km Fun Run featuring three heats of runners
• Harley-Davidson riders
• E-bike riders
• Sidecars and a vintage fire truck
• Carnival mascots and marching groups

The City’s Fire and Rescue Services and Law Enforcement officers also take part in the pre-parade activities — a crowd favourite every year.
